The vampire population may have created an economic boom in Alaska, but their altered energy field fries most technology. They rely on hard-living--and short-lived--couriers to get business done...couriers like Sydney Kildare.
Sydney has survived to the ripe old age of twenty-six by being careful. She's careful when navigating her tempestuous clients, outrunning hijackers and avoiding anyone who might distract her from her plan of retiring young to a tropical, vampire-free island.
Her attitude--and immunity to vampires' allure--have made her the target of a faction of vampires trying to reclaim their territory. Her only ally is Malcolm Kelly, a secretive charmer with the uncanny habit of showing up whenever she's in trouble. Caught in the middle of a vampire turf war, Sydney has to count on Malcolm to help her survive, or the only place she'll retire is her grave...
I Loved The Female lead Sydney Kildare, she's 26 years old, strong and smart, she's a courier for the vampires. She doesn't tell anyone her name and constantly changes her looks, never takes the same route twice and disguises her scent so the vampires can't find her. Her only connection is an old mentor that got out of the business a while ago. She has been planning moving to Hawaii for a while but life just happens and plan change.
Sydney finds herself in the middle of a vampire turf war before she can leave town and in the midst of it becomes entangled with a mysterious hottie named Malcolm. Sydney allows him closer to her then she should and later realizes that things aren't what they first appeared ad must decide if she can really trust him after finding out the truth about him.
It is a pretty short story but it was well written and I fell in love with the characters and wish there was more about them. I liked the fast romance as it served the length of the story well but I would have loved more of a romance just because the characters where so good, Sydney was an amazingly strong female lead and Malcolm was a Hot caring Male. This novella had some funny parts even though the tone was occasionally grim but still I laughed at the banter between Malcolm and Sydney.
So I wonder if she will make this part of a series or if it was intended to leave an open ended feeling. I wish Regan would write more about them cuz the end just left me wanting more.
