25 books of Christmas Day 24

Hello fellow book fanatics!!

Christmas eve has arrived!!! Tonight Santa will come and gift all the girls and boys with gizmos and gadgets galore! Megan from Down the Rabbit Hole and I are doing a book blog event called the 25 books of Christmas. We will be alternating days and exploring books about Christmas or centered around Christmas time!

Day twenty four

New York Times Bestseller

In this new holiday-themed novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Mistletoe Promise and The Walk, a man receives the best Christmas present he could ask for: the chance to re-write the past.

Bestselling romance author Jacob Churcher hasn't been home for almost twenty years—not since his mentally ill mother kicked him out of the house when he was just sixteen. When a lawyer calls, days before Christmas, to inform him that his estranged mother has passed away and left her house to him, Jacob returns not just to settle the estate but to try and reconcile with the past and the pain and abuse he experienced as a child. Also, maybe cleaning out her house will be slightly less depressing than spending the holidays alone, watching re-runs of Christmas classics.

But as it turns out, the house holds more than just difficult memories, Jacob’s mother had become a hoarder and he must excavate through two decades worth of clutter. As Jacob digs through the detritus, like an archaeologist, he uncovers many puzzling items including a diary left by someone named Noel, a young woman he has no recollection of, who stayed with Jacob’s family during her pregnancy. That’s not the only echo from the past. Jacob has an unexpected visitor, Rachel, a woman looking for the mother who put her up for adoption thirty years before. United by their quest to make sense of the past and rewrite their futures, Jacob and Rachel begin a search for Noel. Along the way they find more than they possibly imagined, including grace, forgiveness and a chance at love.

This sounds like a wonderful book. Its sad that Jacob has to trudge through his horrible past, but quite enlightening to find the diary of a woman he couldn't remeber to meet the Rachel who may very well be a part of his future.

Day twenty two

Holly jolly lycan Christmas by Alicia Montgomery

Hot werewolf shifter restaurateur + his gorgeous, but frosty rival + the holidays = a sizzling paranormal romance with action, passion and a happily ever after worthy of the season!

Dante Muccino’s wolf is restless. After watching all his friends and family pair up with their True Mates, the animal inside him wants what they have. Children. Family. And a woman to call his own. When he runs into rival Holly Taylor, his wolf is intrigued, but the frosty chef won’t give him the time of day.

All Holly Taylor wanted was to hide out in the kitchen, cook fabulous and delicious food, and earn the respect of her peers. But life has thrown her a curve ball and she has one last chance to prove her skills as a chef de cuisine and earn her stars. Her life is complicated enough, and she doesn’t need more distractions, especially not in the form of sexy celebrity chef Dante Muccino. But there’s something about the easygoing chef that’s melting the icy walls she spent years to build.

When danger crosses her path and of those she loves most, Holly gets sucked into the world of the New York Lycan clan. Left with no choice, she must turn to them for protection.

Dante is ready to give up everything to keep her safe, but as she resists him, it’s becoming obvious that Holly is the only woman for him. Can he risk rejection and convince her that ?

A hot werewolf  that can cook, where do I sign up? If holly doesn't want him, I'll take Dante of her hands. Anywho this book sounds wonderful and why wouldn't anyone want to read a paranormal romance Christmas story.

Day twenty

The Christmas room by Catherine Anderson

The beloved author of the Mystic Creek series gifts readers with a novel of homespun holiday cheer, as two families discover the joy of hope and redemption....

Widow Maddie McLendon has uprooted her life to move to Rustlers Gulch with her son and grandson. But as a brutal Montana winter looms on the horizon, contractors have yet to break ground on their new house, leaving them to live in a makeshift camp of trailers, tents, and sheds....

Since his wife died six years earlier, millionaire rancher Sam Conacher has been content to wallow in his grief alone, while keeping a tight rein on his twenty-six-year-old daughter. But now the girl has gone and fallen in love with his foolish new neighbor’s no-good son....

Maddie and Sam will never see eye to eye on anything, until a near-tragedy gives them a true glimpse into each other’s souls. And as the first snowflakes begin to fall, they’ll discover that an open heart is the biggest gift of all....

This is an awesome chriatmas read, heartwarming and mushy. I love a happy ending and a good story of love and romance.

The demon within review

The Demon Within
Written by:Josh gagneir

Goodreads synopsis:
Joe grew up listening to the voice in his head. It helped him through school, helped him gain wealth in his career.

The final temptation of power was too much. He hadn't considered the cost.

Now he must find a way to defeat The Demon Within.

Little does he know, his every move is being recorded. Every misstep is being judged. As he gets ever closer to winning over his demon, heavenly eyes watch from above. Some root for his success while others hope he'll fail.

While Joe fights his demon on the battlefront, the angel Michael fights for his Soul.

Will Joe win out? Will Michael be able to save Joe's soul?

Or will the Demon win and thrust Joe into the Abyss.

My Thoughts:
I always like books involving angels and demons. Michael is one of the best angels known and he is right hard for Joe's soul. Joe has always listened to his demon within and it has gotten him do much but he's never though twice about the price of all that aid. Will Joe's soul be saved or thrown into the abyss??? This book was very well written and had a very original storyline. I enjoyed the premise of everyone have a demon within because humans possess both good and evil intentions. Definitely worth the read.

I finally get the opportunity to become a serving officer and fulfil my childhood dream, as well as get to know my biological father, General Norman. And when I first clap eyes on Restormel, the HQ of my father’s space mercenary outfit, it’s the most beautiful building I’ve ever seen.

Secrets that demand fresh victims, because whatever else happens, they can’t be allowed to see the light of day…

First book in the series:
Running Out of Space
Elizabeth Wright has yearned to serve on the space merchant ship Shooting Star for as long as she can remember – until one rash act changes everything…

Dying for Space – the world
Dying for Space starts on Monday, 23rd March 2359 during a training run. I don’t mention it in the book, but I do have a manuscript charting the complete timeline with every scene dated and timed.
Since Elizabeth joined the Cadet Officer training programme nine months earlier, she has settled in well and feels good about the future. But on this Monday evening, everything is about to change because her father, General Norman, returns from fighting a nasty little war against a competing mercenary outfit on the planet Ceres. He comes back triumphant and full of future plans. Unless colonies and space stations pay protection money to outfits like Norman’s mercenary outfit, the Peace and Prosperity Corps (known as the P’s) they are prey to any passing pirate with a moderately fast ship and a couple of mazer cannon. In fact, piracy has become so popular, the outlaws have now fashioned their own highly defended stronghold – Erato, from which they operate.
The factor that so unbalanced Sector Two was caused when the enigmatic aliens, the Eaoughts, or Eaties, as they are often nicknamed, threw up a cordon around their home planet in the Wolf system and gave notice that they wished all humans to leave. Given there was a secret research station and two planets within that exclusion zone, along with a very inconvenient chunk of major shipping routes, the governing bodies involved turned to Earth to act as intermediary. This proved to be a disastrous decision, as the Earth-based diplomats had only the sketchiest idea of what was going on in the furthest reaches of Sector Two as it was over two months’ away by faster-than-lightspeed travel on cargo ships not designed for passenger comfort. Consequently, the talking heads involved had left the tedious business of actually visiting the area to underlings and didn’t listen to them when what they said proved too inconvenient.
Deadlines came and went and the negotiations dragged on for five long years – until the Eaoughts lost patience and in 2352, they invaded Homespace and blew up Mercury, flatly announcing that unless all humanity left the exclusion zone within six months, they would suffer a similar fate. The scrambling mess that ensued can’t be dignified by the term, resettlement – it was far too disorganised and piecemeal. Hundreds of lives were lost as ships not equipped to carry refuges and their belongings did just that. It is rumoured that part of the exclusion zone is littered with floating bodies and their belongings as ships flushed out their stinking holds when overloaded life support systems stopped working.
Those in Sectors Two and Three witnessed this with mounting horror and fury as Earthcorps troops, who could have stepped in and prevented much of the mayhem, were ordered back to Homespace to protect the millions living on Earth and around it. While General Norman has watched all this with mounting satisfaction, realising that so long as his force can create a semblance of order, he is poised for a very prosperous future. He now just needs a living relative to pass it on to –  a biddable, loving daughter sufficiently like the one who died to assuage his grief – a role he sees Elizabeth fulfilling. The problem is, Elizabeth envisages quite a different future for herself…

SJ HigbeeAbout the Author:
Born the same year as the Russians launched Sputnik, I confidently expected that by the time I reached adulthood, the human race would have a pioneer colony on the Moon and be heading off towards Mars. So I was at a loss to know what to do once I realised the Final Frontier wasn’t an option and rather lost my head - I tried a lot of jobs I didn’t like and married a totally unsuitable man.

Now I've finally come to terms with the fact that I’ll never leave Earth, I have a lovely time writing science fiction and fantasy novels while teaching Creative Writing at Northbrook College in Worthing. I’ve had a number of short stories, articles and poems published – the most recent being my story ‘Miranda’s Tempest’ which appeared last year in Fox Spirit’s anthology Eve of War. I recently signed a publishing contract with Grimbold Publishing for my science fiction novel Netted, which is due to be released in 2019.

Day sixteen

Dear Mrs. Walters,

One of my fellow clergy told me of Denver’s Benevolent Society of Lost Lambs. I believe your organization is just what our town needs to become a community of virtuous men and women. To do that, our men need to be united in holy matrimony, start families and thus build a town of pure-hearted, respectable citizens …

At least that’s what Reverend Chase Hammond hoped when he devised his marriage scheme to save the town. Unfortunately, if he didn’t get the men of Noelle married, his and every other man’s hopes of having the railroad come would die, Noelle right along with it. But planning to marry the men off to save the town and actually doing it were two different things. Some didn’t like the idea, thinking a mining town should be mining, not marrying! But that was only one of Chase Hammond’s problems. Problems that if not fixed immediately, would seal Noelle’s fate …

Felicity Partridge was in trouble. Big trouble. An active voice for Suffragettes, she’d managed to get herself arrested more than a few times. Now her father demanded she marry to keep her out of more trouble. But how could she further the cause of women shackled to a husband? But when her father gave her the choice between marriage and jail, she decided it best to further her cause elsewhere, and Noelle, Colorado seemed just the place to do it! Especially when she found out who her husband to be was …
Unfortunately, he had other ideas about marrying.
Enjoy this sweet, clean and wholesome romp about the little town of Noelle and its inhabitants. The first in a 12 book series!

This idea of marrying off the men of the town and having twelve different books about it just seems really cute. I want to see how they get the men to sure to arrange marriages and can felicity partridge mind her manners long enough to get hitched?

Christmas In The City

Kenna McMillan would do anything for her grandchildren. She would even accompany one of them hundreds of years into the future for a week of Christmas celebrations with the old witch, Morna, just to make him smile. But unexpected guests at the inn upend all of their holiday plans. As she learns more about her new acquaintance, she starts to wonder if her week away might take a romantic turn…

When a trip to Conall Castle with his granddaughter results in Malcolm Warren bumping into old friends, their quick trip out of Edinburgh quickly turns into days away from the city. While there, Malcolm meets the first woman in years to stir something long neglected inside his heart. When it comes time to return to the city, his granddaughter wants to remain behind with her new friends. He invites Kenna to come with him, promising her a tour of all of the best Christmas sights in the city.

Time together ignites their passion for one another, but the undeniable truth that they live worlds apart threatens their bond.

Kenna also holds a secret—can she trust Malcolm with the truth of Morna’s magic? If she does, will their new love for one another be enough to convince him to leave the life he’s always known?

This sounds wonderful, Kenna is a magical grandma and has finally found someone that romantically interests her. We are so used to the story about young love but what about the older generation, they need love too.

An Aussie cowboy, his feisty ex, and an unprecedented storm. Jett Wayne’s Christmas becomes complicated.

When Paris loses her job days before Christmas, her world crumbles. She returns to her parents’ home in outback Australia where she plans on eating enough food to fall into a coma and sleep straight until New Year’s. But when she unwittingly bumps into her ex on her way home, old feelings awaken.

Picking up Paris from the airport isn’t on Jett Wayne’s to-do list. Neither is dealing with their history or her cranky mood. Shit happens, like his one mistake that drove them apart. When he sees her again, he remembers the vulnerable girl from his hometown who rode horses bareback, who never backed down from an argument, and who stole his love.

When they find themselves stranded during an unprecedented storm, they’re faced with explosive emotions, secrets, and uncontrollable desires. Will Jett gamble on a second chance before Paris leaves him for good this time?

She spun, with bag in hand, and hoofed it down the room, dodging people left and right. She had to get away from him and fast.
“Paris!” Jett called out. “Wait up.”
Oh geez, because clearly the curse hadn’t finished with her, now it threw Jett in her face? What next? He’d invite her to his wedding and announce his wife-to-be was pregnant with twins. God, she shouldn’t care, but that might kill her. She had no boyfriend to gloat about, no job, and was returning to her parents’ place to hide from the world. Yep, her armoury was empty to battle against Jett. But it was more than just gloating or acting as if she was better than him. He was her first boyfriend, her first lover, her first true love. And she accepted long ago that he would always have a piece of her heart, but she sure as hell didn’t want him flaunting his awesome life in front of her. Bad enough everyone in Yalgoo would ask her a million questions, but Jett was a problem on a whole different plane of existence. She planned to stay in her parents’ house the whole visit to avoid bumping into him in town.
Footfalls closed in, and she glanced behind her to find him marching after her with determination, his brows pinched. With a huff, she stopped and whirled to face him. “What do you want?”
“Where are you off to in such a rush? Last time I saw you run this fast was when Ned’s bull escaped the yard and chased you down the street.” Those crystal eyes, crowned with thick brows, could have melted her on the spot, but she wouldn’t let him affect her. He’d done enough of that to last a lifetime.
“If I remember right, it was you who released the animal.”
He laughed, the sound a feather across her skin. How dare he make her feel good in his company? After what he did, he didn’t deserve a second of her time. “Well, it was great to reminisce with you,” she said. “I’ve got to go.”
“And where are you going exactly?”
Paris stormed off and responded without turning around. “Looking for my lift.”
“You’ve just found him.”
Wait! What? She stopped dead in her tracks and turned around, meeting his devilish grin. Oh, great. Thank you, universe, for topping my wonderful Christmas homecoming.

Penchant for vengeance

About the Book
Title: Penchant for Vengeance
Author: Robert Downs
Genre: Mystery
Charlottesville, Virginia, Police Detective Luke McGinty has a closet filled with demons, along with a few skeletons; a steady job, but no steady partner or girlfriend; and is still married to his wife Sallie, even though she’s been dead for three years. Then his detective work takes a turn for the worse when a body is discovered at the downtown mall. One dead body isn’t enough, though, and another one turns up. When ties to a cold murder case in another county present themselves, Luke realizes that, if he doesn’t tread carefully, he could end up short more than just a few answers…

Book Excerpts
Excerpt #1
Traffic was light—Charlottesville, Virginia, despite being a college town, had a curfew—the morning was dark, and a light mist filled the air, adding drops of water to my bright yellow 1974 Camaro. I took the back roads, rather than using US 250 to reach the downtown mall, with Regal Cinema located near the center, off Main Street. I reached the scene in less than ten minutes, including parking, without using a siren, or running a single red light. The body, however, wasn’t nearly as successful as I was.
“Can’t you guys pick a more reasonable hour?” I asked. “Crime should wait until at least nine o’clock.”
“Why don’t you get your butt out of bed like everyone else?” a cop said.
The man didn’t look familiar, nor did his crew cut, wide shoulders, and pressed uniform. His face lacked wrinkles, and his scowl provided more menace than a rabbit with a semi-automatic weapon.
“I did. I’m here, aren’t I?”
I’d flashed my shield to get in, and now I wanted to flash my nine-millimeter. The early hour meant a yawn preceded one hand wrapped around the thick neck of my competition. I preferred reasonable solutions since reasonableness was all I had left. “What do we know?” I asked.
“We know you don’t belong here,” Nelson Rivers said.
Like his name implied, he preferred headlocks to handshakes and shaved heads over full-haired ones. He and I had respectfully disagreed on multiple occasions, so often I couldn’t remember the last time we’d ever agreed on anything other than the day of the week. He had hands the size of pencil sharpeners, and he pushed more buttons than he allowed pushed in return. What he needed was a little less mouth and a lot more action.
I ignored his comment. Ignorance was a hard emotion to pin down, but it seemed to rear its ugly head quicker than the other ones. And crime scenes brought out a special kind of ignorance. I had a few emotions left in my system, despite the hour, and I wanted to save them for the victim, who appeared about my age.

Everybody wants to be an actress, right? The lights, the camera, the action? The fame, the money, the beauty and esteem. It’s all part of the package. Unless, of course, you’re part of HIS films. Ethan Cole was one of the best directors in the business until the day he disappeared. He was charismatic, gorgeous, intriguing and so brilliant that no other person could compare. People believed he’d simply quit. In truth, he’d gone underground. I found him after being stolen from the streets. I was thrown into his new world, his fantasies, his decadent chaos, and I found myself fighting just to stay alive. He seduced me while tormenting me. Made me a star while keeping me hidden from the public’s eye. He asked me one simple question before shoving me in front of the glittering lights and dark lens of his camera. One question, requiring only one response: Fuck or Die?
