Supernatural Devices Review

Published: October 27, 2011

Goodreads Synopsis:

Scarlett was a sensible seventeen year old young lady or so everyone thought, but there was definitely more to her. The daughter of famous English Egyptologists and archeologists Theodore and Gemma Seely, she was prone to adventure and all the world had to offer.

It was the 1890s, and she had just received a letter from one of her parents' dearest friend, a certain detective who lived on Baker Street, who needed her help on a case most bizarre.

As she embarks through the supernatural side of London, ventures into the forbidden realms bordering Victorian society; often accompanied by a dashing but infuriating Lord Darthmoor; Scarlett's first case, which had seemed so innocent at first had taken a turn for the unexpected and dangerous.

My Thoughts:
I loved Scarlett she was so fiery and independent yet retained some lady like behavior. I thought the males in this book were awesome there were four rather important men in the story and all of them sexy and different. Of course Cruces had my heart from His and Scarlett's first meeting, but then Tavian gave him a run for his money. I like Scarlett's unique aibilty and the fact that this story also involves the famous Sherlock Holmes. I didn't like the length of the book it seemed more a novella then a full length novel but the story spun during those 143 pages was amazing enough for me not to care that much.

My Book Boyfriend {3}

I just finished my Random read, Supernatural Devices (Steampunk Scarlett #1) for the month and was hung up on two of the boys in there so I decided to do one this week and the other next week! So without further ado my book boyfriend for the week is Lord Cruces Darthmoor!

Lord Cruces Darthmoor

Dark hair, a tad longer than than that of the times which is 1890 London.

Strong Shoulders

Beautifully Handsome looks (not much more detailed description)

Vampire

"That is not what the mark is. It is not some nobleman's coat of arms, to be given out freely. It is used only with those closest to us; friends, confidantes. Potential lovers." There was a trace of his old Smile as he said that.

"And which of those categories do you see me in?" Scarlett demanded in her primmest tone.

Cruces answered her simply, by kissing her. Scarlett Had not been prepared for that. Men did not kiss women out in public like this. they simply did not. Except that Cruces did. He kissed her with an initial wave of fierce passion, which became something more gentle as Scarlett kissed him back. She knew that she should not, but she did. She kissed him back for long seconds, her lips moving on Cruces', her eyes drifting closed to feel the pleasure of it better. Cruces made no move to hold her to him though. It was as though he wanted to be clear that Scarlett was doing this as much as he was. It was Cruces' way of telling Scarlett, she was very much part of wanting this kiss as he was. Scarlett finally pulled back.

"I Hope that provides your answer," Cruces said.  "You had no right to do that," Scarlett Replied, though she did it softly.  "And yet you did not pull back sooner."

Well no it had been a good kiss. A very good kiss. But then, what had Scarlett expected from someone like Cruces? "If that is what having your mark means," Scarlett managed to say, "I am almost glad I no longer have it."

Cruces snorted. "Liar." Scarlett flushed slightly as she looked away. "I have to go, " Cruces Declared then. "You're Leaving?" "Only to find Rothschild. You don't think I'm going to let him leave his mark on you now, do you?"
pg 88&89-supernatural Devices by Kailin Gow

I know ladies you're probably like how original picking Ian for a vampire but just the vauge description of Cruces and the rest of his comments from the book and that aggravatingly sexy smile of his in the book, Ian just immediately popped into my head I just wish they would have told me what color his eyes were. The describe Cruces as being forward and very handsome, kind of like Ian's character Damon, so Ian just fit my vision of Cruces perfectly, plus ladies don't lie to yourselves, Ian is super hot!

Bleeding Violet Review

Bleeding Violet
Published: December 26, 2009

Goodreads Synopsis:
Love can be a dangerous thing...

Hanna simply wants to be loved. With a head plagued by hallucinations, a medicine cabinet full of pills, and a closet stuffed with frilly, violet dresses, Hanna's tired of being the outcast, the weird girl, the freak. So she runs away to Portero, Texas in search of a new home.
But Portero is a stranger town than Hanna expects. As she tries to make a place for herself, she discovers dark secrets that would terrify any normal soul. Good thing for Hanna, she's far from normal. As this crazy girl meets an even crazier town, only two things are certain: Anything can happen and no one is safe.

My Thoughts:

At first this book confused me and honestly even through the story or at the end nothing was crystal clear but it all fit together. I wasn't sure that I was going to be able to finish this book at first because of how strange it was but it actually ended up keeping my interest. I liked the weirdness a cloudy plot which is unusual for me, because I like things explained till the are clear. I liked the main character Hanna because she had serious flaws just like a real person would. Wyat the male lead was flawed as well but strong, smart, funny and romantic. Rosalee put on a hard facade only to later to reveal her soft side.

This book was strange but interesting. It was crazy but kept me reading. I loved the main character because she is flawed like a real person. The  style of this book is very different from any other book I've read but I love  that everything is from the main characters perspective so there is quite a bit of dialogue.

Neferet's Curse (House of Night Novellas, #3)
Expected Publish Date: July 17, 2012

With more than 12 million books in print, rights sold in almost 40 countries, and over two years on the New York Times bestseller list, the House of Night series is an international publishing sensation. Now, the excitement continues as the Cast mother-daughter duo shares the back stories of a few of the House of Night's most important – and mysterious – characters.

In the third House of Night novella, the secret history we've all been waiting for is finally revealed...  Neferet, the Tulsa House of Night's darkly seductive High Priestess, wasn't always a powerful vampyre, but she has always been beautiful. Raised in turn-of-the-century Chicago in a motherless home, her beauty makes her the prey of unwanted attention and abuse, leaving her with scars that will never heal – and a Darkness that will eventually need to find its way out. But when she is Marked and gains strength, both physical and magickal, she turns her anger into power and looks for a way to regain what was stolen from her. From victim to High Priestess, beautiful young woman to powerful seductress, Neferet's journey begins...

My Book Boyfriend {2}

I just got done with the novella Amethyst Bound by L. Shannon and Dr. Benjamin Davis was the male lead and he was super sexy, smart and kinda dorky but that totally sold me!

Photobucket

Dr. Benjamin Davis

  • Shoulder length wavy Brown Hair
  • Tan complexion
  • Grey Eyes
  • Broad Shoulders
  • Long, lean body
  • Archaeologist
  • Obsessed with proving dragons exist

" I have no intention of leaving you. Being with you is a chance of a lifetime even without all the perks." I pulled back and wiped my face, embarrassed by tears. " What perks? Seems like being a kae'tolen is a pretty crappy job."

He dragged me back against his body, where I felt his heart and arousal. His lips claimed mine in a gentle kiss that went on and on, leaving me quivering with want. "You are the perk. Never in all my life have I met someone like you. even if amethyst hadn't carried me off the mountain, I'd still have hunted you down, and I wouldn't have done it because of your pretty scales or a disappearing artifact." I was stunned speechless. With tears still slipping from my eyes and a silly smile on my face, I grasped at his words. " But I have an evil dragon and a bunch of vampires after me..."

"So you need me. I like that feeling, I love you Toni."

My Dr. Benjamin Davis is played by Paul Walker! I imagine just about everyone knows Paul Walker.

Amethyst Bound Review

Amethyst Bound (Amethyst, #1)
Published: May 26, 2010

Goodreads Synopsis:
Toni Giovanni is a thief although she prefers to call it the high-risk recovery business. Her current job feels suspiciously easy until a mysterious artifact draws her into an ancient prophecy and binds her soul to a spirited dragon named Amethyst.

But Toni isn’t quite ready to be taken over by a dragon, even if Amethyst’s appetite for sexy archaeologist Dr. Ben Davis mirrors Toni’s own. And she’s got a big problem on her hands: turns out the prophecy predicts that dragons will end the world and there are many more dragons out there.

Toni’s going to need all the help she can get.

My Thoughts:
I Loved the imagery used to describe the details in this book, The author did amazing. I also love the characters in this story, they are different from each other but that's what makes it work. I love amethyst, she is amazing, she is just what I figure a dragon would be like! I love the story line and can only hope that the author will soon have more of this story. The only thing I didn't like was the length of this story I know it was a novella but  I wish there was more to  it cuz I loved it! I love dragons and this was an amazing story about them.

My Soul to Save

My Soul to Save (Soul Screamers, #2)
Goodreads Synopsis:
When Kaylee Cavanaugh screams, someone dies.
So when teen pop star Eden croaks onstage and Kaylee doesn't wail, she knows something is dead wrong. She can't cry for someone who has no soul.
The last thing Kaylee needs right now is to be skipping school, breaking her dad's ironclad curfew and putting her too-hot-to-be-real boyfriend's loyalty to the test. But starry-eyed teens are trading their souls: a flickering lifetime of fame and fortune in exchange for eternity in the Netherworld—a consequence they can't possibly understand.
Kaylee can't let that happen, even if trying to save their souls means putting her own at risk….

My Thoughts:
I liked this book, it wasn't as good as the first one. I kinda feel like Kaylee is stupid, this book just made her seem really dense. I did like to see Tod s o Concerned for someone though. I also like the trips to the netherworld and the descriptions because there wasn't any of that in the first one. I'm also glad that Kaylee and her dad are living together and actually being a family, but I wonder about the rest of the series because as I said earlier Kaylee seems to be dense, will she ever wisen up or is she always gonna be in the dark?

The Past Came Hunting

The Past Came Hunting

Published:September 19,2011

Goodreads Synopsis:
Fifteen years ago a young Colorado Springs police officer arrested a teen runaway accused of aiding a convenience store robbery and attempted murder. She was innocent, but still served prison time briefly. Her testimony sent the real thief to jail for much longer. Now she’s a young widow raising a son, and the man she put in prison is free and seeking revenge.

She moves to a home in a new neighborhood—then learns that her next-door neighbor is the by-the-book officer who arrested her. Now he’s a Colorado Springs P.D. Lieutenant. Like it or not, he may be the only one who can protect her and her son from the past he helped create.

My Thoughts:
I liked this book. The characters were really well developed, and the story was romantic and suspenseful with a little humor mixed in. I loved the family dynamics in this story, it showed how a single mom, with a full time job as a florist takes care of her kid and then how a single dad with a full time job as a cop struggles to be there for his son and do the job he loves. I loved the fact that I felt like I really knew the characters and their values. This book kept me reading from page one, I was never bored

Destined Review

Published: October 25, 2011

Goodreads Synopsis:
Zoey is finally home where she belongs, safe with her Guardian Warrior, Stark, by her side, and preparing to face off against Neferet – which would be a whole lot easier if the High Counsel saw the ex-High Priestess for what she really is. Kalona has released his hold on Rephaim, and, through Nyx's gift of a human form, Rephaim and Stevie Rae are finally able to be together – if he can truly walk the path of the Goddess and stay free of his father's shadow…

But there are new forces at work at the House of Night. An influx of humans, including Lenobia’s handsome horse whisperer, threatens their precarious stability. And then there’s the mysterious Aurox, a jaw-droppingly gorgeous teen boy who is actually more – or possibly less – than human. Only Neferet knows he was created to be her greatest weapon. But Zoey can sense the part of his soul that remains human, the compassion that wars with his Dark calling. And there’s something strangely familiar about him…

Will Neferet’s true nature be revealed before she succeeds in silencing them all? And will Zoey be able to touch Aurox’s humanity in time to protect him – and everyone – from his own fate?

My Thoughts:
I loved the struggle within Aurox and Kalona, because it's always amazing when people change for the better. I hate the fact that Heath was involved again...he died and he should stay dead and let Zoey move on! I love Thantos' involvement with the house of night and how she tries to thwart Neferet. This Story was suspenseful but dragged a little in the beginning and of course hang a cliff hanger end that would infuriate the white bull himself! I love the focus on Rephiam and Kalona because their character flaws turned out to be their greatest strength. I love this series but kind of wish Neferet would just get defeated already and am a little concerned about the next few books and my love for them. I love the description of darkness in the book and how it is greedy and must feed of Neferet constantly in order to carry out her ill wishes. I'm satisfied with the book as a whole but like I said earlier I do worry that the whole Neferet is going to be drug out and ruin the series that I have fallen in love with.

Deep into the heart of a Rose

Deep Into The Heart of a Rose
Published: January 19,2012

Goodreads Synopsis:

Sometimes days happen to you,  and sometimes you happen to days
With this thought in his heart, Edward T. Cozzlebottom sat in his cottage and composed a love letter to his neighbor, Ezmerelda Wimbish. The creation of this simple letter set into motion events that will lead both Mr. Cozzlebottom and Mizz Wimbish on perilous and wondrous journeys outside their idyllic village in the Vale.

Their simultaneous adventures carry them down opposite paths, where they encounter the Wicked Tinker, the Walrus King, the Trench Systers, and ultimately, the enigmatic leader of the Black Lodge, Abraham Jefferies. It is the mysterious Abraham Jefferies who understands the full power and meaning of the letter, and it is his will to destroy it that places Mr. Cozzlebottom, Mizz Wimbish, and all they have ever known on the verge of abyss.

Poetic, philosophical, and entertaining, Deep Into the Heart of a Rose takes you on a journey to a place both strange and familiar. A journey that leads you both away from - and back to - yourself.

I had a hard time finishing this book because it doesn't make any sense to me and I apologize for being so harsh but I'm being truthful. It was hard for me to get into and even harder for me to follow.I'm sorry to be so negative. I do however love the poems in the book!

Desperate Housedogs Review

Published: October 17, 2011

Goodreads Synopsis:
When Caro Lamont, former psychologist turned pet therapist makes a house call to help Kevin Blackstone with his two misbehaving German Shepherd dogs, she expects frantic dogs, she expects a frantic dog owner, she even expects frantic neighbors. What she doesn’t expect is that two hours later the police will find Kevin dead, his dogs impounded; and that as the last person to see Kevin alive (well, except for the killer) she is suddenly a person of interest, at least according to Homicide Detective Judd Malone.

Sparkle Abbey is the pseudonym of two mystery authors (Mary Lee Woods and Anita Carter). They are friends and neighbors as well as co-writers of the Pampered Pets Mystery Series. The pen name was created by combining the names of their rescue pets - Sparkle (Mary Lee’s cat) and Abbey (Anita’s dog). They reside in central Iowa, but if they could write anywhere, you would find them on the beach with their laptops and depending on the time of day either an iced tea or a margarita.) Visit the authors at www.SparkleAbbey.com

My Thoughts:

This book was good, I like that the main character wasn't a detective just couldn't resist knowing the truth. I like that there were two hot males mentioned in the book. I love that the lead character Caro was a pet psychiatrist, and I understand that the talk about the animals was necessary for making the character who she is but I think that there was just a tad too much about the animals and not quite enough about the plot of the story as far as the mystery goes but I still enjoyed it and would read any other books written by this author.

Ryan Stone is hot and kills aliens that would harm humans...aww I'm a sucker for a hero!!! Ryan stone is the extremely hot male co-star in the book Red handed by Gena Showalter!

  • Broad SHoulders and sharp Cheekbones
  • Occupation: A.I.R Agent (Alien Investigation & Removal)

My shoulders sagged, the fire of my anger dying a
quick death. Our gazes met, exactly as they had onlya short while ago. A shiver of awareness stole over
me. I drank in his appeal. I could feel his body heat.
His fingers were calloused and created a dizzying
friction against my skin.
In the next instant, he released me and stepped
away. He tangled a hand in his dark hair. “What are
you doing to me?”
My jaw dropped in astonishment. “Me? I'm not doing
anything.” Except wanting you , I added silently.
I still wanted him to kiss me. The need was so strong
that I suddenly didn't care about being kicked out.
About getting in trouble and having my memory
wiped.
“Not doing anything—ha!” He snorted. Once again,
he closed the distance between us.
Yes, I thought. Closer…closer…
His clean, pine scent wafted around me. “You're all I can think about anymore,” he whispered in my ear. “I look for you in the halls. I'm constantly wondering what you're doing and who you're doing it with. Why do you think I was looking in on the party? I was hoping you'd catch a glimpse of me and come out. I can't get you out of my mind, even though you're forbidden.” I gulped. So, he felt it, too, then. The hum of attraction. The need. I opened my mouth to reply, to tell him how I felt, but he shook his head. “Don't say a damn word,” he said in that whisper. “If I hear that you want me, too, I'll lose control.” He pushed out a shaky breath, and it fanned my lobe. “Boss watched your fight. He watches and sees everything because there are cameras everywhere. Even here.” I paled. “Come on,” Ryan said, loudly this time. “Boss wants to see you and Allison.” Ryan wanted me. Ryan really wanted me!

Don't Bite the Messenger Review

Published:January 16,2012

Goodreads Synopsis:
The vampire population may have created an economic boom in Alaska, but their altered energy field fries most technology. They rely on hard-living--and short-lived--couriers to get business done...couriers like Sydney Kildare.

Sydney has survived to the ripe old age of twenty-six by being careful. She's careful when navigating her tempestuous clients, outrunning hijackers and avoiding anyone who might distract her from her plan of retiring young to a tropical, vampire-free island.

Her attitude--and immunity to vampires' allure--have made her the target of a faction of vampires trying to reclaim their territory. Her only ally is Malcolm Kelly, a secretive charmer with the uncanny habit of showing up whenever she's in trouble. Caught in the middle of a vampire turf war, Sydney has to count on Malcolm to help her survive, or the only place she'll retire is her grave...

I Loved The Female lead Sydney Kildare, she's 26 years old, strong and smart, she's a courier for the vampires. She doesn't tell anyone her name and constantly changes her looks, never takes the same route twice and disguises her scent so the vampires can't find her. Her only connection is an old mentor that got out of the business a while ago. She has been planning moving to Hawaii for a while but life just happens and plan change.

Sydney finds herself in the middle of a vampire turf war before she can leave town and in the midst of it becomes entangled with a mysterious hottie named Malcolm. Sydney allows him closer to her then she should and later realizes that things aren't what they first appeared ad must decide if she can really trust him after finding out the truth about him.

It is a pretty short story but it was well written and I fell in love with the characters and wish there was more about them. I liked the fast romance as it served the length of the story well but I would have loved more of a romance just because the characters where so good, Sydney was an amazingly strong female lead and Malcolm was a Hot caring Male. This novella had some funny parts even though the tone was occasionally grim but still I laughed at the banter between Malcolm and Sydney.

So I wonder if she will make this part of a series or if it was intended to leave an open ended feeling. I wish Regan would write more about them cuz the end just left me wanting more.

Random reads Choice for February

Random Reads
Random Reads is a monthly meme hosted by I'm Loving Books

In short, Random Reads is a meme where we pick a random book from our shelf to read within the month. I’m on Goodreads so I’m using a combination of the sorting feature and Random.org to pick the book I’m going to read.
Want to join in on Random Reads?
It’s easy…
  1. If you’re on Goodreads enable sorting to your to-read shelf (you should see numbers next to each book now).
  2. Go to Random.org and type in the Min as 1 and the Max as how many ever books are on your to-read shelf.
  3. Scroll down to the book matching the number Random.org picks.
  4. Link up to your Random Reads post (below).
  5. Read and be merry.

If you’re not on Goodreads just pick a random book from your list in whatever way you want to do it. You can use the method I used above or even just close your eyes and point randomly at a book on your bookshelf if you want (spin the bottle style). lol
The only exceptions are if it’s a book that’s in the middle of a series you’re reading and you haven’t gotten to that book yet then you can pass and pick another random book. Or, if it’s a book you look at and realize it’s something you’re no longer interested in then you can DELETE it from your to-read list and pick another. You can also obviously skip it if it’s a coming soon book that hasn’t been released yet.

The random read I'll be doing for this month is Supernatural Devices (Steampunk Scarlett #1) by Kailin Gow

This Weeks Question is:
Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kick ass heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?

Most of the books I read have kick ass heroines, but a lot of them have hot alpha males too so I'm half and half i guess.

You will kill. The only question is when.

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their "pets." In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.

Unregistered humans cling to fringes, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero...and turned vampire.

Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She's passing for human...for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love.
