This is not a test

It’s the end of the world. Six students have taken cover in Cortege High but shelter is little comfort when the dead outside won’t stop pounding on the doors. One bite is all it takes to kill a person and bring them back as a monstrous version of their former self. To Sloane Price, that doesn’t sound so bad. Six months ago, her world collapsed and since then, she’s failed to find a reason to keep going. Now seems like the perfect time to give up. As Sloane eagerly waits for the barricades to fall, she’s forced to witness the apocalypse through the eyes of five people who actually wantto live. But as the days crawl by, the motivations for survival change in startling ways and soon the group’s fate is determined less and less by what’s happening outside and more and more by the unpredictable and violent bids for life—and death—inside. When everything is gone, what doyou hold on to?

Megan' s thoughts:

This is not a Test by Courtney Summers is a hauntingly good read with disturbing and tragic visions painted in a beautiful way. Main character, Sloane is a suicidal teen trapped in a high school with five other students whom are seeking refuge from the zombie apocalypse. All five others are holding tight to survival except Sloane. Her only focus is to find a way to end her physical life, because her conscious life ended six months before when her sister ran away and left her alone with their abusive father. It might seem simple to end your life with zombies milling around everywhere but it isn't when you care about the others around you. Sloane would never purposefully compromise there "safety" . The writing is gripping ; a real page turner. I couldn't put it down, especially when things occasionally turned from gloom and doom to a little more hot and steamy. it is realistic in a way that is genius and incredibly heartbreaking. it will leave you longing for more.
